Prima Exploration Inc. is a privately held exploration and production company. Named after a favorite ski run in its home of the beautiful Rocky Mountains, Prima values responsible development of energy reserves. We rely on our technical expertise and wealth of experience to reduce risk and unlock value within an ever-changing energy landscape.
Prima was incorporated in 1980 and in the following years sold and executed drilling deals. The oil price collapse of 1986 preceded a transition into acquiring production and reserves in the Northern Rockies. From the Coalbed Methane play of the Powder River Basin in 1998 to drilling the first horizontal Bakken well in Mountrail County in 2005, Prima participates in the forefront of oil and gas. In 2006, the company developed a "Crows Foot" horizontal Midale/Nesson field where North Dakota meets Canada and implemented a Red River horizontal water flood in Harding County, SD. Prima completed a 5 well Bakken program in 2011 and then began focusing on the horizontal development of the Cretaceous zones in the Powder. Prima entered the Permian Basin in 2016 and in 2017, began operating the Table Mountain Shannon Unit in the Powder. In 2018, Prima acquired multiple positions in the western Williston Basin with operations across 28,400 producing gross acres. Since then, Prima has drilled 10 Bakken wells and 1 Teapot well.
Prima operates in the Delaware Basin, Powder River Basin, and Williston Basin. Prima is debt-free and pursuing acquisitions of oil-weighted assets. Ideal acquisitions include a mixture of PDP with some component of upside in the form of operated or non-operated working interest. We are amenable to many deal structures but prefer cash purchases. We pride ourselves on rapid evaluation work and the ability to quickly close deals.
